ONE GIRL, 2009

At The Women’s Fund, we believe that every girl should be able to reach her full potential.

With this mission in mind, The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio, along with the Columbus Foundation, Cardinal Health, and Nationwide funded the One Girl Initiative. Over the past three years this research-based endeavor focused on the power and potential of girls in central Ohio to transform our community into a place where girls have the confidence, skills, and tools to live productive, happy, and effective lives. Through the One Girl Initiative, The Women’s Fund and the One Girl Collaborative partners helped change the conversation in the central Ohio community, reframing the issues around girls and shifting how girls are served by the non-profit community.

Together, the Collaborative, made up of the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland, the Interprofessional Commission of Ohio, Ruling our eXperiences, the Mentoring Center, and the YWCA of Columbus provided services to over 400 girls through programs that were designed to increase self-esteem, improve relationships and communication skills, and build knowledge and skills regarding personal safety and self-defense. The Collaborative created programming that was unique to the needs of these girls in a way that no one organization could do alone. Collective wisdom resulted in collective power and influence.

Together, we empower women and girls, impact families, and uplift entire communities—one girl at a time.
