Remembering Judy Garel
Judy Garel was a powerful force for change whose expansive legacy will continue to impact our community in countless ways. At The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio, we are honored that she is one of our 15 Founders and, thus, will always be part of that legacy.
Twenty years ago, The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio started with a phone call. Founder Emily Rutherford called her long-time friend, Judy Garel, and discussed the power of women’s funds. In enthusiastic response, Judy hosted the very first meeting on her porch that gave birth to The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio. Because of Judy, we are celebrating 20 years of women-made, women-led, women-focused impact this year.
Since that first meeting on her porch, Judy remained steadfast in her dedication to our mission to transform the lives of women and girls. Her contributions, vision, and passion are woven throughout our history. Notably, she penned the values statement that boldly guides our work to this day as we begin our second generation of impact.
Today and every day forward, we pay tribute to Judy’s unwavering commitment to our community. We mourn alongside so many of you who have had the great honor of knowing and loving her. She will be greatly missed.
We invite you to watch the video linked below to hear, in Judy’s own words, the spark that led to the progress we have made and the inspiration for the work we courageously carry forward. Read more about Judy’s incredible life, contributions, and legacy here.
