Proyecto Mariposas

Proyecto Mariposas is a non-profit organization that provides an environment of learning, sharing, and support to Latina Girls and their mothers. In anticipation of Mother’s Day, Proyecto Mariposas shares about the importance of the mother-daughter relationship to their programming and what it means now as families are spending more time at home.

“The relationship between mother and daughter now will influence the future of the child. Our culture plays a big part on this process. We believe that every woman and girl can live a life that is stronger and more courageous if she has the support, tools, resources, and mentors to empower and encourage her. The mother daughter relationship provides a foundation for this to be successful. Now more than ever, this relationship is essential because each one of them is experiencing the current crisis from a different perspective and by staying close and connected, they are able to leverage the strength and power of each other to overcome struggles. We have heard from mothers who see the silver lining in the time they are spending with the girls. As an organization, we are here to provide that added support while they are at home staying healthy.

In order to stay connected at home, Proyecto Mariposas introduced the Super Mariposa Art Box (S.M.Art Box) to provide Latina girls (7 years+) with materials and creative ideas to allow for a break during the week. They also join a weekly call to share high, low, and happy moments in an effort to support each other. Since March 21, they have have distributed over 420 boxes of weekly activities including a bi-weekly drop off to a group of girls at a local school.
