While many of our fellow grantmakers are informing the non-profit community that they will be reducing the amount of money to serve those in need, The Fund will increase the amount of grant dollars invested this fall. This is not the time to reduce services to single women with children, cut resources to self-esteem programs for girls or limit spending on workforce development programs for women. Unfortunately, women and girls are disproportionately effected by this economic recession. The Women’s Fund will respond with an increased commitment to women and girls in central Ohio and ask you to join us in this commitment.
Of every 1,000 Americans living in poverty in the United States, 700 are women and children.
In central Ohio, the situation is even tougher:
-
Girls are 1/3 more likely to live in poverty today than in 2000.
-
One in 10 girls have attempted suicide in the last year.
-
Girls in Franklin County are 38% more likely to get pregnant than her peers elsewhere in Ohio.
The time to act is now. We know that for some, this is a difficult time. We also know that you care and want to contribute however you can. If 1,000 women in central Ohio donate just $10/month for one year to The Women’s Fund, we can empower women and girls to reach their potential and reverse these statistics.
Research proves that empowering women and girls impacts entire families and uplifts entire communities. Your contribution – leveraged with 999 additional donors – will fund organizations that specifically focus on women and girls. That’s a strategic, easy and powerful investment!
With your help, we will transform the lives of women and girls in Central Ohio right now, when the need is greater than ever. You are one. Together we are 1,000.
Will you be counted today?
